Terms of Use

The ground rules for using Subleaux. By using the site, you agree to them.

Draft · pending review

This is a draft written in plain language for the Subleaux early preview. It hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet and may change before Subleaux launches.

What Subleaux is, and isn't

Subleaux is an independent informational and matching site that helps LSU and Southern University (SU) students who need out of a lease find students who need a place. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for LSU, Southern University, or any property or management company.

Subleaux never acts on anyone's behalf in a lease takeover. We don't handle, process, or approve takeovers, and we aren't a party to any lease. You deal directly with the property, and the property makes all approval and screening decisions.

Who can use Subleaux

  • You must be a current student at LSU or Southern University and verify with your @lsu.edu or @subr.edu email.
  • Use your real name and keep your account to yourself.

Posting a listing

  • Your listing must be accurate and honest: real rent, real dates, real unit details, and any incentive you'll actually pay.
  • Only list a lease that is yours to transfer, and check your property's takeover rules first.
  • Keep it up to date, and take it down once your spot is taken.

Not allowed

  • Scams, fake listings, or asking for money or deposits outside the property's official process.
  • Spam, harassment, or impersonating someone else.
  • Discrimination. Listings and messages must follow the federal Fair Housing Act and Louisiana fair housing law. Don't exclude or prefer anyone based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Posting someone else's private information.

Your lease is your responsibility

You remain responsible for your own lease and everything in it (rent, fees, damages, and move-out duties) until the property releases you in writing. Taking over a lease means signing with the property and meeting its requirements. Subleaux can't release you from a lease or promise that a property will approve anyone.

Property information

Property details come from public sources, such as property websites, public policy pages, and FAQs, and in the future may include written replies to our general information requests. They can be out of date or incomplete. Always confirm with the property before you act. Corrections: corrections@subleaux.com. See how we get our data.

No guarantees

Subleaux is provided "as is." We don't guarantee that any listing is accurate, that any student is who they say they are beyond their verified email, that you'll find a match, or that a property will approve a takeover. Use your own judgment, and never send money to someone you haven't verified through the property.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Subleaux isn't liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site, from listings or messages posted by other users, from your dealings with other students or properties, or from property information that turns out to be wrong or out of date.

Removing listings and accounts

We can remove any listing or message, or suspend any account, at any time, including when we think it breaks these terms or puts other students at risk.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana.
